Liverpool sent a message to the rest of the Premier League with a dominating 7-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday. Cody Gapko, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Núñez all added two goals each as the Reds ran rampant over their rivals.
The game started off as a tight affair with both teams trading off possession in the early stages. Liverpool finally broke through in the 43rd minute when Cody Gakpo scored the game’s first goal. They then doubled their lead four minutes into the second half when Darwin Núñez headed in from close range.
Liverpool continued to press forward and a flurry of goals followed. Salah added two and Cody Gakpo an additional one. The Reds then put the game to bed when Núñez scored his second of the match in the 75th minute. Firmino added a seventh in the 88th minute to complete the rout.
Manchester United never threatened Liverpool’s back line, managing only four shots on target throughout the match. The Red Devils will be disappointed with their performance, but credit should be given to Liverpool for putting on a masterclass of attacking football.
One of the standout performances came from Mohamed Salah, who recorded two goals, one assist and was chosen the man of the match. Liverpool took three well deserved points we hope they will take their impressive form into their next match.
