Harry Kane scored the decisive goal as Tottenham Hotspur claimed a vital 2-1 win against fellow European hopefuls Brighton & Hove Albion, marking their fifth consecutive home victory in the Premier League (PL).
Despite Brighton’s confident start, it was the hosts who struck first with a magnificent 10th-minute goal from Son Heung-Min. Cutting inside from the left, Son curled an unstoppable shot into the top corner, becoming the first Asian player to score 100 PL goals. Undeterred, the Seagulls pressed for an equalizer.
Kaoru Mitoma’s goal was disallowed for handball, but Brighton continued to push forward. Spurs’ goalkeeper Hugo Lloris made crucial saves against Alexis Mac Allister and Moisés Caicedo before Lewis Dunk’s powerful header leveled the match at 1-1.
After the break, Danny Welbeck’s goal was disallowed for another handball. Tensions escalated on the touchline, resulting in red cards for Cristian Stellini and Roberto De Zerbi. Brighton’s penalty appeal was ignored, and in the closing stages, Tottenham found their winning goal. Pierre-Emile Højbjerg’s cut-back set up Harry Kane, who scored his 23rd league goal of the season to secure a priceless victory.
The win keeps fifth-placed Spurs within three points of the top-four, albeit having played a game more than their rivals. Meanwhile, Brighton drop to seventh position after their first PL defeat since February. Harry Kane was named Man of the Match for his match-winning contribution.
